Historic Astoria Waterfront
  • The paved Astoria Riverwalk offers visitors a self-guided walking tour of the city's waterfront district.
  • Heavy river traffic can be viewed at all times, including barges, freighters and commercial fishing vessels. During the annual Rose Festival, Navy ships cruise slowly up the Columbia River to the City of Portland's Waterfront Park.
  • Sea and wildlife can be viewed from observation platforms, viewing areas and restaurants located along the waterfront.

Astoria Column

  • Sitting atop a 600-foot hill and reaching another 125 feet into the sky, the Astoria column offers a spectacular view of the Columbia River and North Coast area
  • Dedicated in 1926, the column was designed by New York architect Electus Litchfield. A sgraffito frieze, executed by Italian artist Attilio Pusterla, illustrates the westward sweep of civilization to the Northwest Territory.  The sgraffito was completely cleaned, restored and repainted in 1996.

Astoria Public Market

  • Since 1992, local farmers have brought their weekly harvests to the Astoria Public Market.  Open rain or shine, the market operates May through October.
  • The market features local produce, flowers and crafts.

Museums & Memorials

The Clatsop County Historical Society offers visitors a chance to visit three museums, each housed in a different historic building.

Maritime Museum

  • Located on Astoria's historic waterfront, the Columbia River Maritime Museum displays one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the West Coast.

Fort Clatsop National Memorial

  • Built by the Lewis & Clark Expedition, Fort Clatsop was the first United States military post west of the Rocky Mountains.

Fort Stevens State Park

  • Union soldiers once stood watch at this outpost of the Civil War.  It was deactivated as a military fort shortly after World War II and is now a museum featuring military artifacts, guided tours, a replica of a Chinook longhouse, interpretative displays, movies and living history demonstrations.
